NEW! Teaching Canadian Canoeing - A Class for Instructors
Nowhere in the world has the open canoe played as important a role as in
Canada, especially in the wilderness of Ontario. Over the last century,
Canadian canoe guides have developed and refined a unique style of paddling
with origins that go back to the first birch bark canoes in the hands of
skilled first nations' paddlers. This style has been popularized by well
known paddlers like Omer Stringer and Bill Mason and forms the basis of the
instruction program offered by the Ontario Recreational Canoeing Association
(ORCA). Join well known ORCA instructors Rolf and Debra Kraiker for an
introductory session to get a look "under the hood" of this unique program.
The session will cover canoe dynamics, teaching practices and measurement
criteria used in ORCA's lakewater and flatwater programs.
We'd like to encourage ACA Canoe Instructors to participate in this course.
No ORCA certification will be available as a result of this class, but it's
a great opportunity to discover another approach to teaching canoe. We hope
you'll join us for this unique opportunity.
Tuition: $60.00

Canadian Style Paddling Workshop
Join Jodie-Marc Lalonde of Turtle Paddle Works for a one-day workshop on
Canadian Style Paddling, the classic canoeing style popularized by Bill
Mason with the paddler kneeling in the middle of the canoe and paddling on
one side only. Learn the techniques the enable you to move your canoe with
precision, style and grace. This workshop is fun, humorous and interactive
with nary a mention of strokes. So come and experience this traditional
method of paddling.
Jodie-Marc Lalonde is certified as a canoeing instructor by the Canadian
Recreational Canoe Association (CRCA) and the Ontario Recreational Canoe
Association (ORCA). He is the owner of Turtle Paddle Works, a custom paddle
manufacturer near Algonquin Parc, Ontario. Jodie-Marc is the former National
Program Coordinator for the CRCA.

NOTE: Tuition is a bit higher than our regular classes due to the added
